For over 20 years, we’ve kept our pricing straightforward and accessible, not as a reflection of reduced value, but as part of our core mission: to support scientific work with reliable software that doesn’t require a subscription or institutional budget The software was developed in close collaboration with several UK molecular biology labs and their researchers. Drawing on their hands-on experience with sub-cloning and supervising others in molecular biology techniques, they helped shape the tool they genuinely wanted. Many of these labs—and their offshoots—continue to use DNADynamo today, regularly suggesting and testing new features. During the design phase, direct feedback from PhD students, post-docs, and principal investigators using the software in real time proved invaluable. To make this process as easy as possible, we introduced built-in feedback options: users can select ‘Suggest a Function’ to send improvement ideas directly to us, or choose the dreaded ‘I’m Annoyed’ from the File menu to report anything frustrating. These features have been so useful that we’ve kept them available to all users, encouraging ongoing contributions to DNADynamo’s development. Over the past two decades, labs around the world have helped guide the software’s evolution. Collaborating with researchers to make DNADynamo better for their specific needs remains the most rewarding part of this work, and we’re deeply grateful for the time and insight they’ve shared. You may occasionally hear DNADynamo referred to as DNACowboy, the project’s original development name. Some of our longest-standing users still prefer the ‘Cowboy’ nickname—and we’re happy to honour it.
